Questions, answered
How much home loan can I afford?
Start from the EMI you are comfortable paying every month. At a typical current rate, Rs 1,50,000 a month over 30 years supports a loan of about Rs 2.19 crore. The calculator shows it for your own EMI and age.
What salary do I need for this EMI?
Many lenders allow up to about 75% of take-home salary for all EMIs together. So a Rs 1,50,000 EMI needs a take-home of about Rs 2,00,000 a month, with no other EMIs. A co-applicant's income can be added.
How does my age affect the loan?
Most lenders want the loan to end by around age 70, with a tenure of up to 30 years. If you are older, the tenure is shorter, so the same EMI supports a smaller loan.
Should I choose the home or the loan first?
Know your loan budget first. It helps you shop and negotiate with confidence.
